In one line: you need a licence on the machine you want to play on.

Cross-play and cross-progression are both supported. But “my save follows my account” and “my licence is per platform” are two different things.

What Game Pass covers

Xbox’s official page lists Diablo IV as available with Game Pass, which means subscribers can play the base game.

Expansions are separate products. To play Spiritborn, Paladin or Warlock you still buy the expansion, and it is licensed per platform.

Subscription catalogues change monthly, so confirm the current state on the Xbox store page before you rely on it.

Cross-play and cross-progression

  • Cross-play: PC, PlayStation and Xbox share worlds, and the Switch 2 version supports it too.
  • Cross-progression: one Battle.net account carries the same characters and progress between platforms, so you can continue where you left off.
  • Expansions do not transfer: Blizzard’s FAQ states that expansions must be bought for each platform you want to play on.

Pick by what you own

  • PC only: buy on whichever of Battle.net or Steam is cheaper at the time. Both are full versions.
  • PS5 or Xbox: the console version is complete and supports cross-play. If you also play on PC, you need the expansion on both.
  • Handheld: the Switch 2 version is the only option. Read the performance review first.
  • Game Pass subscriber: play the base game first, then decide about expansions.

Prices and editions are on price and editions, and the release timeline is on release dates.
